Easy Peasy. Made with our locally grown Stanthorpe Dried Apples produced on farm.
This Sky View Apple Strudel is a bit of a family favourite. It’s stuffed to the brim with apples, sultanas, cinnamon, brown sugar and more and when you add icecream to the finished dish it’s a hug in a bowl.
Ingredients
- 1 bag Sky View Stanthorpe dried apples
- ½ cup of sultanas
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
- 1 good glurp of honey mead, bourbon or rum (optional)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ cup hot water
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons Plain flour
- 1 sheet thawed puff pastry
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/4 cup raw sugar for dusting
- Icecream or cream for serving
- Cinnamon to dust
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180 C. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the apples, sultanas, vanilla, honey mead, cinnamon, hot water and let stand for 15 minutes until the apples soften and the sultanas start to plump up a bit.Toss in the brown sugar and flour. Stir to coat evenly.
- Place the pastry onto the baking tray and spread the apple mixture evenly down the middle of the sheet lengthwise.
- Cut the sides of the pastry into strips and fold them over – one strip from each side to form a braid pattern (see the photo) Brush as you go with egg wash.
- Dust with raw sugar
- Bake for 35 – 40 minutes, until golden brown.
- Serve warm, with lashings of cream or icecream dusted with some cinnamon.
